Mental illness has been described as an invisible illness. Invisible because it can’t be identified superficially and because we feel compelled to hide our symptoms. We hide our symptoms because we are afraid. We are afraid of being perceived as broken and unworthy of love.
Home of the Brave is a response to the inaccurate portrayal of mental illness. Instead of empty vessels with neither will or hope, these portraits celebrate the resiliency of the human spirit by making our courage, strength and humanity visible.
By sharing our mental health journeys, we emphatically proclaim “we are so much more than the symptoms of an invisible illness!”
